Welcome to our Boer Goat Page! At Cedar Grove Acres, Life with goats is anything but boring!

I'll begin by telling you that raising goats, especially bottle fed kids, has been by far the most challenging yet rewarding part of farming! My hubby may disagree, lol, but that's just because he's partial to cattle! ;o) You may by now be wondering just who is this woman named "Sarah-Goat-Mom?" Well, she's also known in these parts as the "Crazy Goat Lady!" If you haven't already, please click the link above to find out just how I earned my very special knick-name.
Boer's are primarily raised as meat goats but can also be milked. In my opinion, I have found that the therapeutic value of raising these adorable animals is equal to or even greater than their worth as animals raised primarily for meat.Tennessee ranks 2nd to Texas as the largest producer of goats raised for meat. The breed originates in South Africa, they have large, well-muscled bodies. Females, also known as "Does" or "Nannies" usually weigh 150-250 lbs when full grown. Males, often referred to as "Bucks" or "Billies" range of 250-350 lbs! The typical coloring for Boers is white with red or brown heads, although Boers come in Black, Red, and "Paint," which is spotted. There are three recognized breed organizations that register Boer Goats. The American Boer Goat Association, The International Boer Goat Association, and The United States Boer Goat Association. Please visit any or all of these for more detailed information about Breed information and registration. |

Boers are often bred with other varieties of meat goats. Trigger is a Boer/Savanna cross. Like Boers, they are mild-mannered and very large in size. Kiko's, Tennessee Meat Goat's, Savanna's, Pygmy, and Spanish Goats are also popular crosses.

In Spring of 2010, we'll have pure-bred goats for sale at very reasonable prices! Boers make wonderful pets, but they prefer to be part of a herd. A solitary goat is an unhappy goat! We will not sell any of our stock to potential owners who do not have proper facilities and animal ethics in general. Please visit me, "Sarah-Goat-Mom"
